See Me, For Me: Flynn

A Main Stay adaptive rider on their horse during a lesson

Flynn

If Flynn could travel anywhere in the world, it would be Los Angeles because, as he puts it, “that’s where all the stars are.” With his impeccable sense of style and unmistakable swagger, Flynn is a star in his own right. However, it’s Flynn’s fierce independence that allows his light to shine brighter than any star in Hollywood.

Flynn has been riding at Main Stay for 24 years and currently rides the biggest horse in the herd, King, a 1900 lb. Percheron gelding. Although King’s immense size might intimidate most, it has the opposite effect on Flynn. In fact, despite King’s almost 6-foot stature, Flynn effortlessly manages to tack and untack his horse, eagerly anticipating his weekly rides at the farm. Flynn’s independence comes as no surprise to Roxie, Main Stay’s equine manager, who has known him for 21 years. She says, “From being a young boy who always wanted his dad to watch him ride, to a young man who started making his own choices and becoming independent in his life, he has always seemed to shine at Main Stay, whether riding or just being part of the team.”

Flynn’s independence extends beyond Main Stay, though. One thing Flynn is very proud of is how he prepares for Pioneer Center each day independently. At home, he actively helps with chores and ensures his laundry is put away. He has also participated in the Special Olympics, winning many medals throughout the years.

If you ever come across Flynn at the farm and find yourself unsure about how to approach him, a simple smile is all it takes to connect with this shining star.
