Nature-Based Experiences
Adaptive Gardening
Main Stay’s polinator friendly adaptive garden is full of vegetables, herbs, fruits, flowers and wonder! Accessible raised beds and level pathways invite natural exploration. Time in the garden can be included with other animal programming or be a stand-alone experience. Managed by a trained master gardener, opportunities to earn horticulture scouting badges are always a possibility.
The natural setting, and safe organic gardening practice encourage exploration, getting your hands delightfully dirty in the sun warmed soil, and even sampling a vegetable for the first time.
Guided garden activities focus on:
- Learning where food comes from.
- Different growing techniques.
- Healthy eating habits.
- How to start gardening at home.
Learning about garden upkeep includes things such as:
- Planting.
- Identifying pests or diseases.
- Learning about tool or equipment maintenance.
During the growing season, clients are encouraged to take home crops that are ready to harvest. Sensory exploration is incorporated in the garden to include crops that highlight varying textures, smells, and visual differences in the plants.
