Main Stay to Attend the 2nd Annual Disability Pride Event
Main Stay Therapeutic Farm is excited to return for the 2nd annual Disability Pride Event on Saturday, July 25, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at McHenry County College (8900 U.S. Highway 14, Crystal Lake), Building B.
Hosted in celebration of Disability Pride Month, this free community event welcomes everyone to enjoy live performances, support small businesses from the disability community, and connect with local organizations through a variety of resource booths, including Main Stay. Accessibility features include ADA-accessible parking, wheelchair-friendly pathways, ASL interpreters, and sensory-friendly quiet zones.
Last year’s celebration marked the first Disability Pride event of its kind in McHenry County, bringing together individuals, families, organizations, and businesses to celebrate the diversity, strengths, and lived experiences of the disability community. Main Stay is honored to once again be part of this special event and looks forward to another day of connection, inclusion, and community.
We extend our sincere thanks to Z Advocacy and the Disability Pride Planning Committee for the time, passion, and dedication they have invested in making this event possible. Events like these help create a more connected and inclusive community, and we are grateful to be a part of this growing tradition.
About Disability Pride Month
Historically, the month commemorates the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in July 1990, a landmark law that prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities. Inadvertently, there are still many areas where accessibility needs improvement. The month celebrates the disability community while recognizing the importance of accessibility, inclusion, and equal opportunity for all.
At Main Stay, we believe every individual deserves opportunities to learn, grow, connect, and thrive. We are proud to join our community in celebrating Disability Pride Month and supporting events that bring people together to recognize the unique strengths, perspectives, and contributions of individuals with disabilities.
