Main Stay Therapeutic Farm, a non-profit organization in Richmond, IL, provides equine and animal-assisted services and is seeking a full-time Animal Care Manager.

If you are looking for a rewarding career and have extensive experience (minimum of 10 years) in horse handling and care, along with familiarity with other farm animals (mini mule, sheep, goats, donkeys), this could be the role for you!

About the Role

This position is responsible for the daily care and overall well-being of all animals on the farm.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain and provide sufficient feed and water
Check animals daily to ensure they are healthy and free from injury
Maintain health records
Clean barn area, paddocks, and run-in shelters
Schedule and coordinate veterinary and farrier services
Carry out any prescribed medical treatments

This role works closely with the Equine and Farm Manager and may assist with some property maintenance. The Animal Care Manager also interacts with other staff and volunteers to address any concerns regarding animal care.

This position reports to the Executive Director and oversees part-time animal care staff.

Qualifications

Minimum of 10 years experience in horse handling and care
Extensive hands-on animal husbandry experience
Strong interpersonal skills
Previous supervisory experience
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
Self-starter, dependable, and able to work independently
Proficiency in lunging horses and safely hitching, driving, and backing up horse trailers is required

This position is physically demanding and necessitates the ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs and work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Hours

Mon, Wed, Fri: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
Tues & Thurs: 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Two Sundays per month

Main Stay Therapeutic Farm is looking for an instructor to pick up a few (or more!) teaching hours. We are in need of a part-time therapeutic riding instructor with the possibility of adding barn assistant responsibilities for the right candidate. CTRI preferred, however, candidates in the process of obtaining certification are encouraged to apply as well. Candidates will be asked to demonstrate their riding ability and co-teach a lesson with a current instructor. Saturday and/or some evenings are required. Salary range is commensurate with experience with the instructor hourly range between $20-$25 per hour.

Barn assistant duties include feeding the animals, cleaning the barn, stalls, run-in sheds & paddocks, and assisting the Animal Care manager with other duties as requested. Candidates must be able to lift 50 lbs. A background check is required. Salary range is commensurate with experience with the instructor hourly range between $20-$25 per hour.
