What is Charity Navigator?
Charity Navigator is America’s largest and most-utilized independent charity evaluator. Since 2001, the organization has been an unbiased and trusted source of information for more than 11 million donors annually. Main Stay has been evaluated on the platform for many years. In fact, in 2020 Main Stay was recognized in Charity Navigator’s exclusive list of 10 Top Charities Worth Watching.
What Does a Four-Star Rating From Charity Navigator Mean?
Charity Navigator defines a charity with a 4-star rating as one who “exceeds or meets best practices and industry standards across almost all areas and likely to be a highly-effective charity.” Specifically, the organization analyzes nonprofit performance based on four key indicators or “beacons”. Accordingly, nonprofits can earn scores in the Accountability & Finance, Culture & Community, Leadership & Adaptability, and Impact & Results beacons. Each beacon represents an area of organizational performance that can influence nonprofit success.
Main Stay’s Beacon Ratings
Main Stay’s performance was evaluated for and earned a 100% score in the following beacons:
- Accountability & Finance
- Culture & Community
- Leadership & Adaptability
It’s important to mention that Charity Navigator has not yet established a methodology to rate Equine and Animal-assisted services programs for Impact & Results, the fourth beacon. Consequently, Main Stay is not eligible to receive an Impact & Results rating at this time.
