Therapeutic Riding Program— Volunteers (must be 13 years or older)
- Groomers: Groom horses prior to classes—no experience necessary, we’ll train you.
- Side-walkers: Walk alongside the riders (where appropriate) and help add physical and emotional support to riders when necessary.
- Leaders: Lead the horse for the mounted rider. People with qualified horse experience are needed. All arena volunteers must be physically capable of walking on uneven terrain, and be able to walk for a minimum of 1 hour.
Main Stay is also looking for speech, physical, and occupational therapists who want to become involved on a regular or consultant basis.
Animal Assisted Program— Volunteers assists the facilitator in a variety of ways which could include:
- Interactions with large horses
- Small herd animals
- Rabbits
- Seasonal gardening activities and
- Art projects
Project Volunteers— There is almost always something that needs attention or repair. Some of the areas we can use volunteers are:
- Building projects
- Barn maintenance
- Property maintenance
- Gardening, office
- Administrative activities
Fundraising Volunteers— Throughout the year, Main Stay hosts several fundraisers where good volunteer participation means the difference between success and failure. Please check the calendar for the next event.
Board & Committee Members— are an integral part of the Main Stay team and generally meet on a monthly basis. The Board of Directors is responsible for the financial stability and policy making areas of the program. Board members are people with a strong commitment to assist with fundraising and community outreach. Committee meetings are dependent on the committee’s special cause or event.
